Tree Trimming & Pruning for Portland Properties
Trimming keeps in-town trees safe and keeps farm-edge trees from becoming a problem. Along Main Street and the older blocks, maples, oaks and hickories build up dead wood and spread over roofs and service lines, and thinning the crown and removing dead and crossing limbs reduces the weight on long branches.
On larger properties, trimming covers shade trees near the house, windbreaks that have grown dense and tall, and tree lines along driveways that are rubbing against vehicles and equipment. Raising the canopy over a driveway or lane is a common request.
We do not top trees. We explain what will be removed and why before any cutting begins.

Can you raise tree limbs over my driveway or lane?
Yes. Raising the canopy so vehicles and equipment can pass is a common request.
Can trimming save an old shade tree?
Often. Removing dead wood and reducing weight on long limbs can keep a healthy old tree safe. We tell you honestly when removal is the better choice.
How often should trees be trimmed?
Most mature trees do well with trimming every 2-3 years. Younger or fast-growing trees may need more frequent attention. We can recommend a schedule when we take a look at your property.
Will trimming hurt the tree?
Not when it's done right. We make cuts in the right spots so the tree heals and grows back healthy instead of getting stressed or damaged.
Do you top trees?
No. Topping (cutting main branches back to stubs) weakens a tree and usually causes worse, weaker regrowth. We use proper crown reduction and thinning cuts instead.
What time of year is best for trimming?
Late winter, while trees are dormant, is usually best for major pruning. Dead, damaged, or hazardous limbs get taken care of any time of year, storm or no storm.
